Field Operations Coordinator

04/03/2022

The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust is the only UK charity with responsibility for heritage in Antarctica and we have a very exciting opportunity for an experienced, inspirational and versatile Field Operations Coordinator to join our team and assist in delivering our operation in Antarctica.

The Field Operations Coordinator will assist the Head of Operations and the Conservation and Building Manager to plan, prepare and deliver successful, safe, and sustainable field seasons at Base A, Port Lockroy and five further former British bases on the Antarctic Peninsula (Damoy Hut, Base F, Wordie House, Base W, Detaille Island, Base Y, Horseshoe Island and Base E, Stonington Island).

You will provide administrative support to the Antarctic operation and be responsible for planning and coordinating the field camp for the conservation team when there is a need for a remote camp set-up at one of the HSMs in Antarctica.

You will also accompany the Conservation Team to Antarctica, where you’ll oversee the camp set-up and assist Conservation colleagues in carrying out work in the polar environment whilst ensuring all fieldwork and travel is carried out safely and smoothly. This could be for up to 16 weeks at a time, however, it is important to note that this may not be every year as it depends on the Conservation Programme schedule.

So, if you’re practical, organised, unflappable and you have experience planning, organising and setting up remote field camps in Antarctica or a similarly remote location and want to join a small but ambitious team, this could be the job for you.

Working on site in Antarctica is subject to successfully passing a rigorous medical assessment to ensure fitness to work in remote locations in Antarctica.

Can international candidates apply? You must have the right to work in the UK. You will be asked to provide documentation at the interview stage to prove your right to work, which may include passports, indefinite leave to remain, visas, or any other supporting documents. We ask you to consider this before you apply.
