Antarctica’s historic sites are vulnerable and there has never been a more important time to protect them. With a gift in your Will, you can play a part in Antarctica’s story and protect these special buildings now and long into the future.

How to leave a gift
By writing a Will, you can be sure that your family and friends are provided for in the future, as well as your favourite charities. Anyone can leave a legacy gift and it doesn’t cost you anything in your lifetime. You can choose to leave either a share of the residue of your estate (a residuary gift) or a fixed sum (a pecuniary gift). Your personal gift can be of any size. Leaving just 1% of your estate can make a real difference.
Your solicitor or professional adviser may find the following wording helpful:
‘I give the [sum of X or % residue of my estate] to the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust, registered charity number 1160847.’
If you live in the US, bequests can also be made to UKAHT via CAF America.
Gifts in memory and celebration
Donations in memory are a wonderful way to celebrate a loved one’s life. If you have a friend or family member who cherished Antarctica in their lifetime, this may be a unique and meaningful way to honour their life. You can also make a gift in celebration, to mark a special moment such as a birthday or anniversary.
Reduce your inheritance tax
Gifts to charities are exempt from inheritance tax which means that leaving a gift to UKAHT may help reduce your tax liability. Everyone’s tax situation is different and we recommend that you seek advice from your financial or legal adviser. US taxpayers may also wish to contact CAF America.
