Welcome ...

This is the UK branch of the coalition of Antarctic Heritage Trusts:- Heritage Antarctica. We need your help to conserve Antarctica's human legacy both in Antarctica and elsewhere.

The Trust works to protect Britain's Antarctic Heritage - both in Antarctica itself, and in the UK, where many artefacts from the early Antarctic expeditions are preserved in museums for the enjoyment of the public.  In Antarctica our efforts are focussed in two different geographical areas:

TO SAVE SCOTT'S HUT through ‘Charity Choice’

Friday 25th July 7.45pm, The Players Theatre, Nelson Street, Thame.  Hussey's original script narrated by Tony Long and Hurley's original pictures are put together tell the story of Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition. With bonus film about the first successful crossing of Antarctica fifty years ago. Tickets £5. Ring 0871 222 7232.

 

To commemorate the Centenary of Granting of Letters Patent in 2008, the British Antarctic Territory has issued its first ever legal tender commemorative coins.

Shown above are Taya Pobjoy, Director of Pobjoy Mint, and Philippa Foster Back, Chairman of the Trust. Philippa is holding the silver coin recently struck at a formal striking ceremony at the Mint.  It was also attended by representatives of the Government of the BAT, the British Antarctic Survey, Scott Polar Research Institute, BAS Club and the UKAHT.
